Ryan van Asten

Director of Performance, X-Factory

Ryan was born in Oshawa, Ontario and played his Jr. hockey with the Ajax Axemen before attending Queen’s University and playing hockey at the U Sports level for 4 seasons.  After a brief stint in professional hockey in Europe, Ryan began pursuing his passion in developing hockey players through strength & conditioning programming.

Ryan just recently retired from a 12-year NHL career where he won 2 Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings, before moving back to Canada to work with the Calgary Flames for the past 9 seasons.  Most recently he was the Director of Sports Performance with the Calgary Flames and he published a book called Complete Conditioning for Hockey.

Ryan is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP) and will now oversee the X-Factory Athlete Wellness Centre.

Ryan was in a rock band in high school and have been playing guitar since the age of 13. And if he had to chose, he'd rather be fishing than golfing.
