Coaching Experience

The focus of Dustin’s coaching philosophy revolves around development, first as a person and second as a hockey player. He believes that sport is fun and should remain so, even at the highest competitive levels. Everything is built around making the environment a fun place to be, enticing athletes to want to be at the rink. Dustin leads his coaching decisions with regard to daily activities of the team, whether they involve simple announcements or disciplinary action, are derived on the basis of having the athletes’ best interests in mind.

Dustin has helped inspire many players over the past 16 years as he has coached all levels of hockey as well as lacrosse. For Dustin utilizing the passion for sport is a teaching tool for personal development and life lessons. He believes in informing and preparing the athletes as best as possible so they are well prepared for future advancements in the game of hockey and life’s progressions.

As the Chief Operating Officer at Village Sports, Dustin looks at this as an opportunity to positively impact the lives of driven athletes and their families through sport.

Dustin’s hometown is Airdrie, Alberta where he played a variety of sports such as hockey, lacrosse, track and field, volleyball, football, and basketball. Dustin played elite hockey in Airdrie until going to Strathmore to play for the CFR Midget AAA Bisons. Afterwards, Dustin went to play in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League with the University of Victoria. Dustin won a BCIHL Championship in the 2011/12 season and was named the BCIHL Playoff Most Valuable Player.

Family is important to Dustin. He has two brothers, three sisters and seven nieces and nephews. He admires his Mom, and describes his Grandpa as his biggest role model.

Dustin currently lives in Calgary, AB with his girlfriend Meagan and their two dogs, Thor & Barley.
